fluid critical point milky light scattering

A fluid can turn milky at its critical point

At a fluid’s critical point, its density can fluctuate greatly. Those changes scatter light of every wavelength, making the fluid look milky white. Einstein linked this effect, called critical opalescence, to the kind of light scattering that explains the blue sky.
