Aircraft contrails warm Earth on average
High-altitude aircraft, especially large jetliners, emit aerosols and contrails that can increase cirrus cloud formation. Cirrus clouds can both cool and warm Earth, but thin natural cirrus and contrails have a net warming effect on average.
