Babies learn to look at something together with another person
~9–12 months
Around their first birthday, many babies begin following another person's gaze or pointing to something they want to share. This is called joint attention: two people know they are focusing on the same thing. It is a major step toward language and social communication because a child can now connect an object, another person's attention and a shared experience.
