DNA ancestry and racial identity tell different stories in Cuba
A genetic study of Cubans estimated average ancestry from European, African and Indigenous American populations, but those averages varied widely between individuals. Census categories describe how people identify socially, not a direct measurement of their DNA. Two people with similar ancestry can identify differently, and racial labels do not translate neatly between countries.
