Ancient Rome delivered running water through an enormous pipe network
Roman aqueducts transported water over long distances, often using carefully controlled slopes rather than pumps. Inside cities, pipes distributed it to fountains, baths and some private buildings. Not everyone had water delivered to their home, but the system supported a level of urban water infrastructure remarkable for the ancient world.
