The prehistoric era did not end everywhere at the same time
Prehistory refers to periods before surviving written records, but writing appeared in different regions at very different times. Mesopotamia had written documents thousands of years before some other societies adopted writing. That means one civilization could be recording history while another remained prehistoric. The boundary is about evidence, not a worldwide date.
