Egyptian was written for more than four thousand years
The Egyptian language appears in written records from around 3200 BCE and continued through later stages including Coptic. Its writing systems and spoken forms changed enormously over time. Coptic survives in religious use today, preserving a direct linguistic connection to the language of ancient Egypt's earliest inscriptions.
