The same glass of water can feel hot and cold at once
Place one hand in cold water and the other in warm water, then move both into the same lukewarm water. The first hand may feel warmth while the second feels coolness. Temperature receptors respond partly to recent changes, not just absolute temperature. Your brain's experience of heat depends on what happened moments earlier.
