Fossil fish may reveal the season when the dinosaurs' asteroid struck
Researchers examined fish fossils from a deposit associated with the Chicxulub impact 66 million years ago. Growth patterns and chemical signals in their bones suggest the fish died during Northern Hemisphere spring. If the deposit formed immediately after the impact, the fossils preserve a remarkably precise clue about when the catastrophe occurred.
