The Emishi were not one single ethnic group
The historical Emishi cannot simply be treated as the same people as the Ainu. At least some Emishi were related to the Ainu and spoke Ainu languages, but the name “Emishi” originally covered people who shared a separate culture and political identity rather than one single ethnic group.
