Haiti is far greener than the famous 2% forest statistic suggests
Haiti is often described as having only 2% forest cover, but that figure depends heavily on what counts as forest and has frequently been repeated without context. Satellite-based research has found much higher levels of tree cover when scattered trees and other wooded areas are included. Tree cover and intact natural forest are not the same thing, so different measurements can produce dramatically different pictures.
