Saturn's moon Titan has lakes and seas filled with liquid hydrocarbons such as methane and ethane. The visible amount is estimated to be about 300 times the volume of Earth's proven oil reserves.

An old childbirth drug erased memories instead of pain

In the early 1900s, some hospitals offered women a technique called twilight sleep. Drugs made mothers forget much of childbirth without reliably removing the pain itself. Women could become agitated and were sometimes restrained. The drugs could also suppress a newborn’s breathing. Forgetting pain was mistaken for relief from it.

Counting days between Moon phases helped shape months and may have helped shape weeks. The link remains in language: English “month” and, in Chinese, the same word used for the Moon and the month reflect that connection.
