Sea turtles use Earth’s field as a map

Loggerhead and green sea turtles can use features of Earth’s magnetic field that vary from place to place. The field helps them tell where they are, not just which direction to go. This was the first magnetic map described in an animal.

Surgeons may cut the band joining the brain’s two halves to reduce severe epileptic seizures. Afterward, the halves can handle some information separately: a person may name a picture shown to the right of their gaze but not one shown to the left. The left hand can indicate the picture shown on the left, even when the person cannot name it.
