Total solar eclipses will not last forever

Hundreds of millions of years ago, eclipses could only be total. The Moon’s orbit is slowly carrying it away from Earth, while the Sun’s apparent size grows. Eventually, the Moon will no longer cover the Sun completely.

In cold, acidic peat bogs with little oxygen, the same Maillard reaction known from browned food can slowly tan human skin and help preserve some body material. It can also turn hair reddish. Cooking and bog preservation can therefore involve some of the same chemistry.
