How the Penrose process extracts energy from a spinning black hole

A black hole can give away some of its spin

Around a rotating black hole, frame dragging creates an ergosphere where nothing can remain stationary relative to distant space. An object can enter this region and escape with more energy than it arrived with, taking the extra energy from the black hole’s rotation.
