Green Revolution yields had temporary chemical gains

High-yield varieties, irrigation, synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and mechanization greatly increased crop yields. But the advantages of chemical control were temporary: herbicide-resistant weeds often emerged within one or two decades, while insects developed resistance to insecticides in about a decade.
