A hearing implant does not guarantee a child will learn to speak

Cochlear implants can help deaf children perceive sound, but they do not guarantee full access to spoken language. That is why early access to an understandable language, including sign language, matters. It gives children a way to communicate and develop language even if the implant provides limited benefit.
