Bangladesh faces severe coastal flooding even without losing a fifth of its land
Bangladesh's low-lying coast is highly exposed to rising seas, storm surges and saltwater intrusion. These hazards can damage farmland, homes and drinking-water supplies, increasing pressure for migration. Some dramatic displacement estimates assume particular sea-level scenarios and should not be treated as certain predictions. The danger comes from several interacting risks, not simply a coastline moving inland.
