Alaska has no state income tax partly because of oil revenue
Alaska does not levy a state individual income tax or a statewide general sales tax. Revenue from oil production has historically helped finance state government instead. That arrangement offers residents an unusual tax structure but exposes public finances to swings in oil prices and production. A resource-rich state can become highly dependent on one industry.
