Hominins were present near Casablanca
Fossils from Thomas Quarry I in Casablanca, reported in 2026, move evidence of hominins in the region back to about 773,000 years ago. The fossils are near the root of the Homo sapiens lineage, but they are identified only as hominins—not as Homo sapiens.
